The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) presented the brochure “A Europe of Freedom for and by its People” (“Για μια Ευρώπη της Ελευθερίας και των Πολιτών”) which had been translated into Greek only recently. The booklet contains recommendations from a panel of experts chaired by former MP Dr. Hermann Otto Solms. The presentation took place at the Museum of Greek Gastronomy in the traditional Athenian district of Psyrri. The Museum itself is an initiative of four young Greek entrepreneurs – one of whom is a graduate of FNF’s “Liberal Youth Seminars” – who dared to invest in local culture even in a period of uncertainty.
In preparation of the 2014 European elections, the foundation has launched a dialogue about values and factors which will define the present and future of Europe. Alumni from past FNF seminars discussed how especially young Greeks could counter the ongoing polarisation of values in crisis-hidden societies. Many participants thanked the FNF for providing them with liberal arguments for their social and political mobilization.
In the same event, following the Greek custom of “Vasilopita” (New Year’s pie), a traditional pie was shared among the with the attendees in order to bless the house and bring good luck for the New Year.
