From 1-3 June, 28 participants from all over Europe participated in the first workshop of the Ralf Dahrendorf Taskforce on the Future of Europe. It took place at the Theodor Heuss Academy of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Gummersbach.
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation is the coordinator of the Dahrendof Taskforce, a project of the European Liberal Forum (ELF), which is the foundation of the European Liberal Democrats, the ALDE party. The Taskforce is a one and a half year programme of workshops running throughout 2014 and 2015. This workshop series aims to discuss and develop innovative recommendations for the Future of the European Union.
In order to tackle issues and challenges faced by the European Union more efficiently, four working groups have been established: “Reform of the EU institutions – Re-democratisation of the EU”; “Foreign, Security and Defence – strong cooperation for a stronger Europe in the world”; “Protecting civil liberties – a liberal footprint for Europe” and “Financial and economic crisis – liberal solutions for a Europe that works”. At the end of the programme each workshop will have developed liberal recommendations on how to improve the EU in each of the four subareas.
