…Nicole Knötig from Germany. The jury awarded her the first prize of this year’s edition of Animate Europe for her comic “The Union.” In her graphic novel, she warns that the European Union might break in two parts, a rich North and a poor South.
While current developments like the refugee crisis, xenophobia, nationalism and climate change play an important role in the finalists’ comics, all artists express their hope that Europeans will move closer together and collectively tackle all these challenges, driven by a common European identity.
We celebrated the artists’ work with dozens of comic fans from all over Europe and took a close look at the original drawings which were exhibited in Brussels Comic Museum.
Congratulations to all the finalists and a warm thank you to all our guests and speakers for joining us and making this comic night so special.
