With a seemingly shifting world order, expectations towards the European Union are growing with regards to its ability to transform.
French President Emmanuel Macron laid out his vision for a more integrated Europe early during his presidency and made clear that these ambitions could not be realised without Germany. Even though Chancellor Angela Merkel has backed calls for reform, she remained hesitant to some of Macron’s ideas.
Despite diverging views, to what extent will they be able to go forward on different policy areas? What does the Franco-German relationship mean for other EU Member States? And most importantly: do both leaders have enough leverage at home to influence change throughout the EU?
In the aftermath of the European Council in June, join us for this evening talk, as these and other questions will be discussed with experts from both sides of the Rhine.
