PART I: COVID-19 IN POLAND

 

(Some) Restrictions Lifted

After Easter, the Polish government announced its plans on how some of the restrictions introduced in response to the Covid-19 epidemic would be lifted. In the first period, parks and forest were open for the public. Bigger changes were planned for May 4th.

Poland Votes Despite Corona Crisis

 

Following the Polish parliamentary elections in October 2019, some commentators believed that the re-elected ruling party PiS (Law and Justice) would modernize a little. Yet, they were disappointed. The restructuring of the state in a latently authoritarian direction is being pushed even further. The government’s worrying trend is particularly evident in the way it is trying to instrumentalise the Corona crisis for the upcoming presidential elections on 10th May. Continue reading
